Exercises for BPPV

Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo

Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV) can sometimes be resolved at home with exercises or 'maneuvers' that help guide loose otoconia (crystals) out of the inner ear canals. These maneuvers may trigger some brief vertigo, but can provide total relief in many cases.

See our blog post on BPPV to learn more about why it occurs.

Watch the videos below to learn how to do the Epley Maneuver at home, to treat your own vertigo and what to do if the exercises aren't helping.

Step 1: Which side is the BPPV on?

Step 2: Perform the LEFT or RIGHT Epley maneuver for the side that gave you the most vertigo while lying down during the above test.

If you are unsure what side is affected or you didn't trigger any vertigo, contact a vestibular physiotherapist or discuss with your family doctor. You may have a different condition that causes vertigo, instead of BPPV. Refer to our free vertigo comparison chart to look at different underlying causes of vertigo.
